REI means universal, however the esoteric meaning of Kanji character for Rei is interpreted as spiritual consciousness, sacred or higher knowledge.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle yet powerful ancient healing art administered by laying on hands which accelerates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It was rediscovered by Dr.Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s in Japan.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word. It is written with two Japanese Kanji meaning ‘Spiritual Energy' or, 'Universal Life Force Energy.'
Life Force energy also known as vital energy animates all living things. It is also known as Chi in Chinese and Prana in Sanskrit.
As long as something is alive it has life energy flowing through it and surrounding it, until it dies and the energy departs. When life energy is low or its flow is blocked you become more vulnerable to ill health. But when life energy flows freely and unimpeded your resistance to ill health is greatly strengthened.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki can help with:
Digestive problems- IBS, flatulence, constipation
All stress related conditions - tension headaches, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure, low energy
Muscular aches - arthritis, sciatica, rheumatism and pain in general
(NB. Although Reiki is a wonderful healing system it does not claim to cure disease)
What is a Reiki treatment like?
The recipient lies fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner channels reiki into their body by either laying on hands touching the person's body or, with the hands hovering above the body which is a comfortable option for those people who prefer not to be touched.
Many people may notice a tingling sensation, or warmth as the energy flows from the practitioner's hands into their body. Many aches and pains can miraculously melt away as reiki flows into the recipient relaxing his body and mind and releasing any energy blockages. Sometimes the practitioner will work on a particular area which is a site of pain caused by an energy blockage.
A Master practitioner can work on all levels – physical, mental/emotional and soul level. The recipient’s body and mind gently uncoil and drift and float in a heavenly state of relaxation as they are bathed by Reiki.
Reiki makes you smile inside - it feels like returning to safety of the womb, returning to source and feeling connected with the miracle of life - the miracle of us! I love Reiki!
